Volcanoes

An active volcano must have erupted in the last 10,000 years to be categorized as active.

There are five active volcanoes in Costa Rica: Irazú Volcano, Poas Volcano, Turrialba Volcano, Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, and Arenal Volcano.

Arenal Volcano

This volcano conically shaped, measuring at least 1,633 meters high with a crater 140 meters in diameter, is what most people think of when they want to visit a volcano. The last eruption was in 2010 and it has been dormat ever since.
